PRECIOUS METALS

With the Inspired Collection, you can choose from a range of precious metals for your diamond engagement ring or jewellery piece. Read about the various attributes of platinum, rose gold, yellow and white gold below.

PLATINUM

Platinum is a fantastic precious metal and a perfect metal to use for fine jewellery. It is weighty and durable, as well as elegant and rare. It has many great qualities which include:

  • The platinum we use is 95% pure, it is silvery-white in appearance and it won’t cast it’s colour onto a diamond.
  • Platinum is naturally hypoallergenic because it is so pure. This makes it ideal for people with sensitive skin.
  • Platinum’s density makes it more durable than any other precious metal.
  • Platinum is 30 times more rare than gold.

18CT GOLD – 18CT ROSE GOLD – 18CT WHITE GOLD

Gold has been a highly desired metal since the beginning of recorded history. Gold is shiny, dense, and one of the most malleable pure metals known.  At Inspired Jewellery we frequently use 18ct gold in our jewellery because it is harder than 24ct gold (pure gold which is considered too soft for jewellery)  wears well and presents a beautiful lustre.

Gold is naturally yellow in colour but when different metal alloys are added it produces different colours such as rose gold and white gold. It is important to note that white gold is often Rhodium plated to give it a similar appearance to that of platinum.  This plating does wear off over time, and will require further applications in the future to maintain the look.

PALLADIUM

Palladium is a platinum group metal that, in its latest alloy composition, has an amazing similarity to platinum. Although it has the beautiful silvery look of platinum it is not as dense by comparison and is therefore not as suited for some styles of diamond jewellery in terms of long term diamond security in the ring and longevity of the piece.

The big advantage of palladium, however is its cost. It's actually less expensive than gold and considerably less expensive than platinum, so it's quickly becoming a very attractive alternative, especially for wedding bands.  Like Platinum, palladium is naturally silvery-white in colour and therefore does not require plating as part of its maintenance.

The Inspired Collection uses a combination of the finest quality metals when crafting your piece to enhance the beauty of the design, and with due care and maintenance your piece will be a treasured item in any collection for many years to come.
